Star of the Show: My Front Porch Stage

Part 6

It paints a great little picture of a little kid dreaming of growing up to be a star and, sure enough, one did.

Daddy loved the Grand Ole Opry, and every now and then we’d get to hear that, so I would just pretend.

But I wasn’t the only one singing on that porch. We all liked to perform.

We’d all sing different times, but I think I spent a lot more time than some.

It goes back to that need more attention or just kind of feeling myself out to see if that’s what I wanted to do, but at that time, God knew what was going to happen in my life.

I didn’t.

I was just singing and pretending. We were either singing or preaching.

Our grandpa was a preacher, and if we weren’t singing and performing and playing like we were other people singing on stage, we were out romping the hills being disciples. Painting sandals on our feet and legs like the disciples. Walking the Holy Land with polk berries and preaching from stumps and all that sort of thing. Or singing and preaching.

We were always singing.

At that time, when I was standing on the porch, that was a stage, and I was dreaming of singing in front of a bunch of people, but it was mostly the kids and the animals that I was performing to or that we were performing to.

But it was a start. I’ve told the story many times.

It paints a great little picture, too, of like a little kid dreaming of growing up to be a star.

And sure enough, one did.
